Wake me
from my complacency.
Stir
the dormant ashes.
Ignite
the sparks into flame
to boldly make
the proclamation
“of the mighty acts of God.”
Remove my cowardly spirit
transform me to be
strong, loving and wise.

More than 1,500 years ago, a wealthy young man named Benedict left the nightclubs and vices of Rome for the rugged mountains of the countryside. She wanted life experience in the world and in the culture to really be sure God was calling her to religious life. Continue Reading

I find it next to impossible to offer you my sympathy for Sr. Bea. Our prayers for her were for a miracle or a happy death. We can only be grateful that our loving God has decided for the latter. Now we ask Sr. Bea to pray for us, that her lesson of life may be lived by us. Continue Reading

When asked to participate in an interview about a car accident that nearly took her life 70 years ago, Sr. Beatrice Flahaven agreed, but under one condition. She didn’t want to be made to look like she was complaining. Continue Reading

you listened to God’s call
and you responded.
You became a God-seeker. Continue Reading

The conversation between Jesus and Peter in John 21:15-19 (next Sunday’s Gospel) is, I think, like the call we all receive to follow Jesus. When Jesus calls the first time, we may be confused, puzzled, amazed, questioning, or unbelieving. But something in the depths of our being is touched, and it won’t go away. Continue Reading
