Our annual summer silent retreat is underway, and we are going to share it with you.
You can make this retreat at home, if you wish, by reading each reflection and taking time to reflect, journal, sit in silence or walk quietly through a beautiful place.
By Sister Stefanie MacDonald, OSB
Stability of place, structure and heart makes our house our home. How?
Benedict writes:
The workshop where we are to toil faithfully at all these tasks is the enclosure of the monastery and stability in the community. (RB 4)
When we promise stability in our monastic profession, we promise to persevere here, in this spiritual workshop … and to help our Sisters do so, too.
We promise to follow the rhythm of prayer that forms the structure of our lives. Together.
We promise to gather for meals and leisure. Together.
We promise to care for each other. Together.
The practice of external stability leads to interior stability of heart and spirit. It helps us develop spiritual maturity. It helps us toil faithfully at the tasks we are called to take up.
Sound like home?
