Yesterday was one of those days when nothing seemed to go right. What do you do when you have one of those days? When my dear Aunt Cecilia was experiencing those days she would always tell me to humor her and I did.
I have several things I do to humor myself and one of them is to pick up a book with a quote to fit the occasion. I chose one from C.S. Lewis. I was feeling a sense of emptiness so I found comfort in these words: “God gives his gifts where he finds the vessel empty enough to receive them.”
So in my emptiness I hope to be ready to receive God’s gifts today. In the beauty that is autumn, God’s gifts – purple asters, bumble bees, brilliant red trees – are everywhere!
In my last letter I mentioned I may not be able to write very often but I changed my mind. I am going to write to you as a friend who shares some of her journey of the day or week … and friends talk from the heart. If there is something else you want me to share just let me know. My e-mail address is mjwallace@smmsisters.org.
I hope this sharing – along with my prayers for you – will help you in some way. Blessings to you!
Your friend,
Sister Mary Jane
