Time of Mourning: A Holy Saturday Poem by Sr. Marilyn Hettinger

Jesus’ lifeless body
taken down from the cross.
Mary lovingly receives her Son.
Because of the Sabbath
He is laid to rest in a stranger’s tomb.
A stone is placed sealing the entrance.
Guards are sent.

Fearful apostles  hide.
Faithful women prepare spices for burial,
waiting for Sabbath’s end so they can anoint
the body of Jesus.

Time seems to stand still.
All creation mourns.
