Teens become “Catholic Sisters for a Day”

Last weekend we enjoyed a wonderful program with a bunch of middle and high school girls. They came to the monastery to be Catholic Benedictine Sisters for a day. Here’s what we did:

9 a.m. We gathered in the chapel with the Sisters for our morning prayer (Lauds).

9:45 a.m. Monastery tour with Sister Marilyn.

11:00 a.m. Bingo with the Sisters!

12:00 p.m. Lunch in the dining room with the Sisters.

1:00 p.m. Sister Margaret shared with the girls about our ministries. We love serving God and God’s people through many ministries, including teaching, parish ministry, hospice, retreats, spiritual direction, campus ministry, outreach to the poor and other service.

1:30 p.m. We made cozy fleece blankets for people in need.

2:00 p.m. Sister Charlotte shared with the girls about our prayer style, including the fact that we pray together every morning and evening. This is different from apostolic Sisters like Franciscans, Humilities and BVM Sisters, who live and pray where and when their ministries dictate. Benedictine Monastic Catholic Sisters like us live together as well as pray together. We serve in ministries close to home so we can do that!

2:30 p.m. We made recycled t-shirt bags … perfect for holding the small bibles and Benedictine cross necklaces we gave as gifts to the girls.

We parted at 3:00 with a prayer and smiles. All enjoyed a blessed, fun and inspiring time together. The girls said they loved coming, and hoped they could come back again. We hope they will! ❤
