All sports fans will recognize a section of today’s Gospel: For God so loved the world that he gave his only son, so that everyone who believe in him may have eternal life.” John 3:14-21
Tim Tebow has 3:16 written in the black grease under his eye and little children trying out for basketball in some sports’ clubs have to memorize John 3:16.
All this is good, but serious followers of today’s gospel recognize John’s gospel is about belief and not just about claiming Jesus is Lord. We must live that truth in all our works, words and in our prayers.
Jesus’ message, like his life, involves surrendering, blotting out our sinfulness, our selfishness, our concentration on self. It involves forgiving to the point of death as Jesus himself did. It involves dying.
Are we moving along these lines? Easter is only 2 weeks away. Begin now – if you have not already – dying to selfishness, sinfulness, ego. Begin dying with Christ so you can truly rise up with him on Easter Sunday, April 8!
