On Our Journeys to Become Who God Wants Us to Become

Yesterday Sr. Margaret evoked such a wonderful image of Sisters leaving for their ministries after prayers every morning, nourished by praying Lauds together. It’s the perfect image of our lives together!

Sr. Stefanie leaves for her preschool class at Our Lady of Grace in East Moline; Sr. Marilyn leaves for her campus ministry position at Augustana College; Sr. Norma leaves for her ministry as a social worker in downtown Rock Island; and other Sisters leave for parishes and schools. On Fridays, several Sisters staff Sacred Heart’s food pantry and other venues that serve the poor. We are impelled by our love for God and one another to go out to serve!

Our ministries are fueled by our community prayer, support and life together. When we leave in the morning, we know our Sisters’ love and support accompany us. When we return in the evening, we are re-energized as we look around the chapel at Vespers, once again together, in service to the Lord and one another.

Later, after supper together, we might enjoy strolls around the lake, solving a jigsaw puzzle, playing cards or watching a movie together. Or we might put our feet up and do a bit of reading.

It’s family life, really. Not always easy, but always what we choose in our journeys to become who God wants us to become. We invite you to discover more at an upcoming Benedictine Experience Weekend either this fall or next spring. Blessings!
