A common image of Jesus is ‘Wonder Counselor.’ These days after Christmas I have reflected upon this title. While Jesus brings peace to our journey, He also gives us Wisdom, doesn’t he?
I think of Wisdom as brilliance but it is not about intelligence, really. Wisdom is about knowing the practical ways we are called to love. It’s about forgiveness, healing and other-centeredness. It’s about trusting in Jesus to give us what we need in any situation.
Jesus is the ultimate counselor or Wisdom figure. This week we might do well to reflect on the ways we have known Wisdom from Jesus. What areas are we wise in, and in what areas do we need to grow? In a few days the Wise Men arrive to give honor and praise to the Wonder Counselor – and acknowledge the ultimate WIse Man. Let us give praise for our Wisdom from Jesus and continue to trust that it will guide our every action.
