As I continue my ruminations this Advent, Rumi’s story of fire and bath water occurs to me. Bath water functions as an intermediary here – a story, a poem, a human being.
“Very few can sit down
in the middle of a fire itself …
We need intermediaries.”
My thought is this: very few of us can understand the eternal birth, the birth of a God come to earth; we need intermediaries.
