Tempered by Intermediaries by Sr. Catherine Cleary

As I continue my ruminations this Advent, Rumi’s story of fire and bath water occurs to me. Bath water functions as an intermediary here – a story, a poem, a human being.

“Very few can sit down

in the middle of a fire itself …

We need intermediaries.”

My thought is this: very few of us can understand the eternal birth, the birth of a God come to earth; we need intermediaries.
