In 2010 I lost my spiritual mentor, Dunstan Morrissey, OSB. We had met in 1957 when he was the Director of Studies at St. Bede Academy. I served mass for him daily for almost three yrs. Noted for setting up the notable hermitage “SKYFARM”, known also by Brother David. The night before I left for Vietnam war, we prayed together and he taught me— “TO KNOW GOD is to get high, on love enough, so as to look down on your SELF—— and forget it forever.” . He may have graduated to the mansion worlds, but his influence remains a part of my spirit/soul for the rest of my life.
Many thanks to my Eighth Grade Teacher, Sister Mary Jean, OSB who , along with Monsgr. Tom Kelly at the Immaculate Conception Parish in Monmouth, Illinois , for their encouragement to see if I had a vocation to the priesthood. I’ve had the pleasure ever since , for sixty yrs now, of seeking and finding God everywhere I’ve lived and worked and loved. —- J. David Missavage
