Catching God’s Gifts

at-playground2By Sister Stefanie MacDonald, OSB

“Whoever receives the one I send receives me, and whoever receives me receives the one who sent me.” (John 13:20)

Have you ever tried to play catch with a small child?

You show her the ball, tell her what you’re going to do, tell her what she should do, then throw gently … and watch it bounce off of her onto the grass.

She does not receive what’s freely given.

Receive is a verb (okay, I am a teacher, you know).

It is an action verb. The act is to reach out and accept what’s being given.

God is given to us, but it’s up to us to reach out to accept the Gift.

As small children, we must take baby steps in our learning to receive and grasp.

We all will drop the ball sometimes … but when we make up our minds to receive the Gifts of God, we grow.

We are able to receive the One who sent Jesus Christ … and share that love with the world.

If you sense God may be calling you to share your love as a Catholic Sister, contact me at smacdonald@smmsisters.org. I would love to talk!!!! 🙂
