This morning the sunrise was a blaze of beauty.
It brought to mind the prayer of the psalmist:
“At dawn I hold myself in readiness for You.”
The light was very subtle at first, soft, then definite.
Pink began to fade into light streaks in the sky,
then shining rays of red gold, a ball of fire.
A distant tree seemed to hold the sun: my “burning bush.” It spoke to me
of God’s brilliant light, God’s beauty, God’s gifts, God’s immeasurable
love! My heart overflowed with gratitude. A longing surged up, “Come Lord Jesus.” Let me find You in all reality, listen to You in every place, be one with You. You know my heart.
There are many things in life that make us aware of Your gifts. The beauty
that abounds and the love that surrounds us fills us with gratitude.
At each dawn let us hold ourselves in readiness for God.
“This is the day the Lord has made. Let us rejoice and be glad in it.”
Let us give thanks.
