Visit St. Mary Monastery in Rock Island, Ill., and you’ll see joyful industry everywhere. Spring finds tiny shoots of green pushing through the softening earth as deer, geese, hawks and all woodland creatures prepare nests and dens for their young. Summer finds fields of grasses and flowers offering food and shelter to our four-footed and winged friends. Autumn bursts with abundance! Acorns, berries, crab apples and walnuts provide store for the winter. And winter, that quiet and sacred season, offers rest for us all.

    Dear Sisters,
I don’t know if you remember me or not, but I am one of the ladies that worked for you when you first moved to Rock Island. I was acquainted with Sr. Charlotte Sonneville prior to working for you. Anyhow, you have some very nice photos of the monastery. It’s as lovely as when it was first built. You are all very much in my heart, & I pray for you each & every day. I have never forgotten you. Please email me at mia_west04@hotmail.com. I would love to keep in contact with you again.

Hi Vicki, How wonderful to hear from you! I have passed your message on to Srs. Charlotte and Phyllis. If there is another sister you would like to communicate with, let me know and I’ll make sure she gets it. Blessings!

    Dear Sisters,
My Aunt Marylin (DuCharme) Vance gave me the name of Sister Ottilia Hoeveler for reference purposes. I have an old family photo of Sister Burcherda Rose DuCharme and I am looking for any information that you might have of this sister. The Du Charme family history is in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Among my Grandmother’s photos was a picture of Sister Rose. Would any of your archives have a record of her.
    Sincerely,
    Pattie McKee

    • Patricia, we will ask our archivist to reply to your question. She is away at the moment, but will do so when she returns. Peace!

    • Hi Pattie, Here’s our archivist’s reply: Sorry, I was away for a time, just returned and found this message. We have no record of a Sister Burcherda Rose DuCharme. Sister Ottilia Hoeveler died in 1915 so no chance for a reference from her. I wonder what connection they had with Sister Ottilia. I am happy to answer any other questions that you have … if I can! Peace, Sr. Marilyn

  4. Sister Rose was the principal of school when i attended in the 1940’s, I have a letter from sister Rose in my year book with an autograph “The Marion dated 1947”. I only remember her as sister Rose along with sister Innocense, sister Rita, sister Clarisse, and sister immaculata among others. I have a signed year book with lots of names and info.
    God Bless.
