Recently I used Matthew 14:22-33 during my daily Lectio Divina.
That’s the passage where Jesus walks on water and Peter tries to do the same … and sinks. So often this reading invites us to reflect on Peter’s lack of full trust and faith.
This time, however, I had a different reaction. This time I saw that, at least Peter got out of the boat.
So many of us never do. We sit in the boat – not even daring to rock it – for fear of the risk that we will sink. All of our great ideas, hopes and plans stay right there with us, neither gaining a foothold nor sinking.
Well, that’s not the way we are called to live. We are called to get out of the boat, to risk something new. Jesus will do a great job of giving us a hand! Just ask Peter!!! 🙂
